SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – February 18, 2007 --The Springfield College women's gymnastics team built a one-point lead after two events and edged SUNY Cortland, 185.35-184.625, in a dual meet at Cortland's Corey Gymnasium this afternoon. Cortland entered the meet ranked fourth nationally in Division III with
a season average score of 181.165, while Springfield ranked sixth
nationally at 180.525.
Springfield led 92.95-91.95 after the completion of vault and uneven
bars. Cortland was able to gain back a few tenths of a point in each of
the last two events, balance beam and floor exercise, but couldn’t
catch the Pride.
SC's score of 185.350 was its best of the 2007 season.
Springfield freshman Audrey Lastra (New Milford, Conn.) won vault with a
9.525, finished second on beam with a 9.475 and was fourth on both bars
(9.30) and floor exercise (9.525). She placed second in the all-around
with a 37.825. That score, however, is a Springfield school all-around record -- Lastra's third in three consecutive meets. Her old record of 37.575, was set on Feb. 4 in the team's most recent meet, a win over Ithaca.
Sophomore Kristin Fairburn (Salem, N.H.) won bars (9.575),
senior Heather Tuden (Londonderry, N.H.) was second on floor (9.575), and
sophomore Jacqueline Mazzola (Framingham, Mass.) tied for second on vault
(9.50).

(Williamsville, N.Y.), who won the all-around with a
career-best score of 37.975. Her previous best of 37.775 came last week
versus Rutgers. Wiesner won beam with a 9.50 and easily established a
career best on bars with a second-place score of 9.50, improving on her
9.10 from last week.
Senior Amber French (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) won floor exercise with a 9.65,
tying her career high that she established last week. French also tied
for second on vault (9.50). Sophomore Angela Calvano (Wappingers
Falls, N.Y.) posted a career-high 9.35 to finish third on beam, with
freshman Alyssa Neely (Allentown, Pa.) fourth at 9.25.
