Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Sweep Quad Meets at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass., April 16, 2005 – Springfield College senior Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.) took first place in the 100-meter hurdles (15.89 seconds) and triple jump (34 feet, 5 inches) to lead the Pride to first place in a quad meet hosted by WPI.

The Pride scored 249 points, followed by Coast Guard (171), WPI (126), and Babson (42).

Other double winners for the Pride included juniors Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) and Christina Davis (Orange, Conn.) . Goris sprinted to victory in the 100- (12.65) and 200-meter (27.69) dashes while Davis was first in the discus (114-10) and the javelin (111-5).

On the men’s side, junior All-American Bill King (Wilmington, Mass.) took first place in the 200- (22.58) and 400-meter (50.98) dashes, while senior All-American Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) won the shot put (50-9) as SC took first place out of four teams at WPI.

The Pride scored 274 points, outdistancing Coast Guard (176), WPI (156), and Babson (48).

Pride sophomore Tetsuji Kambara (Osaka, Japan) won the 5000-meter run in a time of 15:19.80, while freshman Joe Dubuc (South Hadley, Mass.) won the 110-meter high-hurdles in 16.55.

In the field events, SC freshman Mike Miller (Storrs, Conn.) won the pole vault (13-00) while sophomore Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) was victorious in the long jump (20-9).

The Men’s and Women’s teams travel to New London next Saturday, April 23, for the Conn. College Invitational.
