BOSTON, January 18, 2006 - Springfield College senior Peter Marques (Massapequa, N.Y.) won a major decision (19-4) over Boston University's Bryan Matsuura at 133 pounds, but it wasn't enough as the Division-I Terriers proved to be too much for the No. 20 Pride, 37-14, this evening (Jan. 18) in Boston, Mass.
SC opened the dual on a strong note, as junior Ryan Hannigan (Wyantskill, N.Y.) won his 125-pound bout over BU's Josh Statum in a 7-6 decision, and then Marques won his 133-pound match. The Terriers reeled off wins in their next six matches, however, to take a commanding lead in the dual.
The other win for the Pride on the night came in the 197-pound match, as SC freshman Alex Klinoff (Concord, Mass.) pinned BU's Elijah Vidal in six minutes and 29 seconds.
With the loss, the Pride falls to 4-6 in dual competition this season. SC will next travel to the New England College Coaches Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Duals at Bridgewater State, beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, January 22.
