Wrestling Places Eighth at Budd Whitehill Duals
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- January 12, 2008 -- The Springfield College wrestling team placed eighth (of 20 teams) in the Budd Whitehill Duals in Lycoming, Pa. this past weekend (Jan. 11-12). The Pride opened up Day 2 with a 20-17 victory over Baldwin Wallace. Chris Brown picked up the key victory for the Pride in the match as his 5-0 decision over Mike Pelton clinched the win for the Pride.After six total bouts, Springfield finished 3-3, making it 4-5 in duals to this point of the season.
In the second match of the day Saturday, the Pride advanced to square off against York, the nation's #14-ranked team, only to drop a 24-18 decision. After a John Ragno pin cut York's lead to 21-18, Brown fell by a 9-3 score at heavyweight. In that match overall, Springfield picked up wins from Oscar Orellana at 149, Rob Mifsud at 157, Anthony Scarpetti at 174, and Ragno at 197.
Finally, in the seventh place match to end the day, Springfield fell to #9-ranked College of New Jersey, 35-7. After falling behind early, 20-0, the Pride picked up seven points off wins at 157 by Erik Delehanty and in the heavyweight class by Ron Fusco.

Head Coach Daryl Arroyo
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 19th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2008-09. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 265-141-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .650 winning percentage.
