No. 4 Wrestling Downs No. 11 York, Cortland In Tri-Meet
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Springfield College, ranked fourth nationally in Division III, won two matches in a tri-meet with 11th-ranked York College (Pa.) and host SUNY Cortland on Tuesday afternoon. The Pride (4-0) defeated York, 23-10, and Cortland, 30-11. Cortland (4-9) finished the day with an 18-17 upset versus York (10-4).Springfield won seven of 10 matches in its opener versus York. Junior Derek McNerney's (Baldwin, N.Y.) win at 125 pounds, junior Pete Marques' (Massapequa, N.Y.) 10-2 major decision at 133 pounds and sophomore Mike Gaeta's (Manalapan, N.J.) win at 141 staked the Pride to an early 10-0 lead. Freshman Jake Tyler (Gouverneur, N.Y.) and senior Tim O'Donnell (Hudson,. N.H.) earned wins at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively, and senior P.J. Rovinelli (Framingham, Mass.) won at 184 pounds. Senior Scott Fay (Danbury, Conn.) finished the match with a 16-3 major decision at heavyweight.
Against Cortland, Springfield started with a forfeit win by Mike Fregosi (Carmel, N.Y.) at 125 pounds. Marques won 6-4 in overtime at 133 pounds with a takedown 32 seconds into the sudden death period. Gaeta won at 141 pounds to push the lead to 12-0. Other winners for the Pride were Tyler at 157, O'Donnell at 165, freshman Elliot Smith (Richville, N.Y.) at 184 and senior Jason Leckey (Guilford, Conn.) at 197. Fay won by forfeit at heavyweight.

Head Coach Daryl Arroyo
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 19th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2008-09. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 265-141-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .650 winning percentage.
