Women's Volleyball Sweeps WPI, 3-0
BoxscoreWORCESTER, Mass., September 17, 2005 - Springfield College junior middle blocker MaryKathryn O'Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded a team-best 11 kills to go along with four solo blocks and four block assists as the Pride swept Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-18), in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17).
SC improves to 9-1 overall on the season with the win, and 2-0 in conference action. Senior captain Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) compiled 26 assists, and senior opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) added seven kills and six digs.
Junior Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) had yet another solid performance for SC at libero, collecting team-highs in digs (14) and service aces (four).
The Pride will next return home for a big NEWMAC contest with Coast Guard on Tuesday evening, September 20, in a 7:00 p.m. start.

Head Coach Moira Long
Moira Long will enter her first season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2011. With over 300 victories as a Division III women's volleyball coach, Long will continue Springfield's proud tradition as one of the top programs in the country.
