WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., - Springfield College senior All-American Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished first in the 400-meter dash, while junior Matt Accioli (Warwick, R.I.) won the shot put to lead the Pride to fifth place out of 53 scoring teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Divison III Men's Track & Field Championships, Saturday, at Williams College.
Cortland won the meet with 73 points, followed by Bates (71), Williams (64), The College of New Jersey (41) and SC (31).
Jaroszewicz ran to All-ECAC honors with a winning time in the 400 of 47.65 seconds. He also anchored the 4x400-meter relay to a seventh-place finish in a time of 3:19.53.
Acciaioli's winning throw was 53 feet, 4 1/4 inches, which is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships later this month.
Junior All-American Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) lept to third place in the long jump with an effort of 23 feet, 2 inches, also a provisional NCAA qualifier.
Senior Jason Mandolesi (Wilbraham, Mass.) finished second for the Pride in the discus (146 feet, 5 inches), while freshman Alex Kampersal (Natick, R.I.) ended up eighth in the shot put (48 feet, 6 1/4 inches).
On the women's side, the Pride's 4x400-meter relay team made up of freshman Cortney Birtwell (East Longmeadow, Mass.), freshman Jess Denehy (Whately, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Tyman (West Suffield, Conn.) and sophomore Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) ran to fifth place in a time of 4:03.01 to lead SC to 28th place out of 52 scoring teams.
Sophomore Megan Young (Hurley, N.Y.) ran to seventh place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:02.12), while freshman Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) finished eighth in the 100-meter dash. She was clocked with a personal best 12.48 seconds in her preliminary heat.
Junior Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass) finished eight in the shot put with a personal-best effort of 41 feet, 5 inches.
