Boxscore/Play-by-Play

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 25, 2006 – Springfield College senior forward Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) scored two goals in the final three minutes of action to break a 7-7 tie as the Pride defeated MIT, 9-7, in come-from-behind fashion this morning at Benedum Field in each team’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.

SC improves to 3-2 overall on the season as the Engineers fall to 2-2 overall on the year. The Pride jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half off of scores from sophomore midfielder Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, Conn.), and junior forwards Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) and Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.). MIT answered back quickly, however, going on a 4-0 run to take a 4-3 lead into the break.

SC outscored the Engineers by a 6-3 margin in the second stanza to take the 9-7 decision. Junior midfielder Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) scored two second-half goals to help pace the Pride. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Flores (Branford, Conn.) was big for SC, saving 13 MIT shots including a huge stop with just 28 seconds left in regulation that would have tied the score.

The Engineers were led by senior midfielder Deanna Lentz with three goals and an assist, as junior midfielder Mary Harding added two scores. Junior keeper Hee Jay Kang had nine saves in goal for MIT.

The Pride will next travel to Amherst for a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon, March 30, in a 4:30 p.m. start.
