Malvezzi Selected As Pilgrim Lacrosse League Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - May 5, 2008 - After leading the men's lacrosse team to the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Championship on Saturday after topping second-seeded Wheaton, 9-5, senior captain Joe Malvezzi was selected as the Pilgrim League Player of the Week.

A native of Wilbraham, Mass., Malvezzi was instrumental in Springfield's seventh Pilgrim League crown. In two games, the Pride had a goal against average of just 4.00, as it held its opponents to just one goal combined in the second half of both contests.

Malvezzi was terrific in the championship game as he held Wheaton's leading scorer without a point in the game. He picked up a pair of ground balls and had four caused turnovers throughout the week for Springfield.

The Pride has since been awarded a first round home game and will take on Kean University Wednesday (May 7) at Stagg Field at 7:00 pm. It is the first time that the men's lacrosse team has ed a first round game in the NCAA Tournament since 2005, when it hosted Wesleyan.
