Babson College Rallies Past Women's Basketball, 95-88, in NEWMAC Shootout

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 13, 2007 – Springfield College junior tri-captain Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) paced the Pride with 20 points, seven assists, three steals and two blocks, but it was the Beavers from Babson College which defeated SC by netting an impressive 57 second-half points for the 95-88 win this evening in Blake Arena.

For the entire contest, Babson (7-6, 4-0 NEWMAC) shot 50.7 percent, connecting on 35 of its 69 field goals. Despite the loss, the Pride outshot the Beavers overall, netting an even 54 percent (34-63) of its shots as a team. The two squads combined to score 183 total points in the affair, the largest amount for a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s basketball tilt thus far on the season. The previous high this year was 137 points in a game between SC and WPI (Jan. 6).

Babson was led by senior forward Suzy Ward with a game-high 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor. She also had seven rebounds. Three other Beavers scored in double figures; with junior Caitlin Boulier scoring 21, senior captain Colleen Burke netting 15, and junior Linsey Poulson adding 13.

The Pride, which falls to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play, had five players in double figures. Sophomore center Lauren O’Connor (Valhalla, N.Y.) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, junior guard Tara McCarthy (Bristol, R.I.) poured in 16 points, sophomore forward Corey Finch (Hanover, Pa.) chipped in with 12, and sophomore forward Liz Brosseau (Franklin, Mass.) came off the bench to score 10.

SC will next host NEWMAC foe, Clark University on Wednesday evening, January 17th, in a 7:30 p.m. start in Blake Arena.
