Men's Track and Field Places Third at NEWMAC Outdoor Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - April 26, 2008 -The women of Wheaton College and the men of MIT captured the 2008 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships held today at Smith College. Wheaton (205 points) squeaked by Springfield (203 points) to reclaim the title that it had held from 1998-2006 while the MIT men took home their eighth consecutive title.

Junior Chizoba Ezeigwe led the Wheaton women taking the 100m and 200m and was the fourth leg of the winning 4x100m relay team. Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) was a double winner for Springfield sweeping the long & triple jumps while MIT's Aline Thomas won the shot and set a new Conference record in the hammer with a throw of 13.15m. Three other NEWMAC records were set by the women including Lacey Cartier (York Maine) from Springfield College in the 800 m (2:16.26), Emily Hwang from MIT in the pole vault (3.58m), and 4x400m relay team from Wheaton (3:56.81). The women's final standings were:

MIT's Stephen Morton was the only double winner on the men's side taking the 100m and long jump. Jeff Baker set a new mark in the javelin with a throw of 60.50m while Wheaton's 4x100m relay team established a new record of 42.45. The men's final standings:
