Women's Gymnastics defeats Rhode Island College
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 6, 2005 – The Springfield College women’s gymnastics team took first place in all four events en route to a victory over Rhode Island College, 184.775 – 178.225, this afternoon in Blake Arena.

SC sophomore Heather Tuden (Londonderry, N.H) was victorious on the vault with a score of 9.325 and freshman Kerry McGowan (East Lyme, Conn.) won the balance beam competition, scoring a 9.425.

The Pride posted the top-six scores in the floor exercise and top-four scores on the uneven bars. Junior Larissa Tabin (Holyoke, Mass.) placed first in the floor exercise (9.775) and sophomore Jill Silverman (Ipswich, Mass.) won the uneven bars (9.475).

Rhode Island College senior Caren Normandin (Fall River, Mass.) placed second on the vault with a score of 9.225.

On the men’s side, Springfield College scored a season-high 205.850 points but lost to Division-I Army, 217.525-205.850, today in Blake Arena.

Sophomore Scott Goff (Syracuse, N.Y.) took first place for the Pride in the floor exercise with a score of 9.100. Senior All-American Nelson Jimenez (Salem, N.H.) won the all-around competition with a season-high 50.350 points. SC received a second-place finish from junior All-American Aric Hines (Greensboro, N.C.) on the pommel horse (9.200).

The Black Knights were victorious in five of the six events. Senior Brian Lee (Freemont, Calif.) finished first on the rings (9.650), while sophomore Mike Oliveira (Glastonbury, Conn.) won the parallel bars (9.250).
