No. 14 Men's Lacrosse Wins Tenth-Straight Game, 25-4, Over Mass. Maritime In Its Regular-Season Finale

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 30, 2005 – Springfield College senior midfielder Kevin Warnock (Somers, Conn.) and senior attackman Adam Cost (Camillus, N.Y.) each tallied four points to lead the No. 14 Pride to its tenth-straight victory, 25-4, in its regular-season finale versus Mass. Maritime Academy this afternoon in Pilgrim League men’s lacrosse action on Benedum Field.

Top-seeded SC (10-4, 8-Pilgrim) will host fourth-seeded Lasell College on Wednesday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the Pilgrim League Tournament. Western New England, seeded second, will face third-seeded Babson in the tournament’s other semifinal. The two winners will meet at the highest remaining seed next Saturday (May 7) in the championship game with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament on the line.

Mass. Maritime (5-9, 3-5 Pilgrim) freshman midfielder J.P. Gabriel scored the game’s first goal at 8:19 of the first quarter, before a 5-0 SC run made the score 5-1, with 4:21 to play in the quarter. After a goal by Buccaneer freshman midfielder Bryan Sears made it a three-goal game at 5-2 with 3:10 on the clock, a pair of unanswered SC goals by junior attackman Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) and graduate student Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.) only seven seconds apart made the score 7-2 after 15 minutes of play.

The Pride poured it on in the second quarter, outscoring Mass. Maritime, 9-1, including two-straight goals by senior midfielder Derek Pedrick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), to take a 16-3 lead after the first half.

A 5-1 SC scoring advantage in the third quarter, and a 4-0 edge in the fourth quarter led SC to victory as 19 different Pride players posted at least one point in the game.

Senior P.J. Rovinelli (Framingham, Mass.) was credited with 11 saves for Springfield, while Mass. Maritime junior Greg Shea made nine stops for the Buccaneers.
