SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 11, 2006 – The Springfield College women’s indoor track and field team performed well in two non-scoring meets this weekend. On Friday, February 10, they competed at the Valentine’s Day Meet at Boston University, and on Saturday, February 11, they competed at the MIT Co-ed Invitational in Cambridge, Mass.

At Boston University, SC senior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) (30th place, 59.48) and junior Jen McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.) (36th place, 59.87) both ran season-bests in the 400-meter dash. The women’s 4x400 meter team of Miner, McBride, freshman Eva Gibson-Mueller (Ipswich, Mass.), and sophomore Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) also ran their fastest time of the season, in 4:06.12, finishing 23rd.

Freshman standout Silvienne Krosendijk (Seroe Biento, Aruba) continued to perform well. She finished in 11th place in the long jump with a leap of an even 17 feet. Finishing in 20th place in the long jump was freshman Vanessa Ricketts (Greenfield, Mass.) (16’2 ¼”). Ricketts took 21st place in the triple jump with a leap that covered 33’10 ¼”. Freshman Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) placed 23rd in the triple jump (33’6 ¾”).

In the weight throw, junior Rachel Disaia (Waterford, Conn.) finished in 26th place with a throw of 43’03 ¼”. She was followed by freshmen Sarah Waddington (Westerly, R.I.), (31st place, 41’1 ½”), and Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) (35th place, 40’2 ¼”).

The next day (Feb. 11) at MIT, there were also many standout performances. The 4x200-meter relay team of McBride, Ricketts, Krosendijk, and senior Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) continued to improve, finishing first with a season-best time of 1:48.63 that now ranks them third in New England. There was also a win in the long jump by Krosendijk (17' 10 ¼”), which provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Nationals, a win in the 600-meter dash by Miner (1:43.15), which qualified her for the New England Division III Championships, and a win in the 200-meter dash by freshman Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.) (28.11 seconds).

Pride sophomore Ashley Palmer (Holyoke, Mass.) competed in five events at MIT and qualified for the New England D-III Championships in the pentathlon and the high jump. Waddington improved her weight throw toss from the previous day to a personal-best of 41’7 ¾”, which qualified her for the New England D-III Championships.

The Pride will next compete on Friday and Saturday (February 17-18) at the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
