Springfield, Mass., Sept. 20, 2002 – Mike Gauvin , a 1997 graduate of Springfield College, has been named head men’s cross country coach at his alma mater.
“We are very fortunate to have someone of Mike’s caliber to take over our men’s cross country program,” said Springfield College Director of Athletics Cathie Schweitzer. “We are all looking forward to the enthusiasm that he will bring to the department.”
Gauvin has spent the last four years as the head cross country coach at nearby Ludlow (Mass.) High School, where he has developed one of the top teams in the state. He has also served as the head coach of the Pioneer Valley Women’s Running Club and was the head Health Promotion Coordinator at Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center in West Springfield.
Gauvin earned his master degree in exercise physiology from Springfield College in 2000 and has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. A four-year letter winner in both track and field and cross country, he was a standout distance runner and high jumper for the Pride.
