No. 20 Wrestling Defeats Williams, 42-3, In a NECCWA Dual Meet
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 25, 2006) – The 20th-ranked Springfield College wrestling team defeated Williams College, 42-3, in a New England College Conference Wrestling Association dual meet this evening at Springfield College’s Blake Arena.With the win, Springfield is now 8-7, while Williams falls to 11-6. SC is ranked 3rd in the latest New England Division III Coaches Poll, while Williams is not in the Top 10. Williams was not at full strength tonight, with several starters out of the line-up due to injury.
Springfield carried the night, winning the first nine matches to take a 42-0 lead. Included was a pin by SC 133-pound senior quad-captain Peter Marques (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa HS) over freshman Mike Penza (Foxboro, Mass.) at 5:52. SC junior quad-captain Mike Gaeta (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan HS) produced a 4-point decision at 141 pounds. Gaeta is ranked #1 in New England Division III in his weight class.
Other winners for SC included junior Ryan Hannigan (Wyantskill, N.Y./Averill Park HS) at 125 (by forfeit), junior Mark DeCiccio (Cranston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) at 149, junior Erik Delahanty (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) at 157 (by forfeit), sophomore Jason Noonan (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield HS) at 165, junior Andre Lee (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Ketcham HS) at 174, sophomore Elliot Smith (Richville, N.Y./Gouverneur HS) at 184, and freshman Alex Klinoff (Concord, Mass./Concord HS) at 197 (by forfeit).
The highlight of the evening for the Ephs came at heavyweight as sophomore Jim Bierman (McLean, Va.) defeated SC freshman Dylan Hanley (New York, N.Y./Hyde School), 6-0.

Head Coach Daryl Arroyo
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 19th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2008-09. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 265-141-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .650 winning percentage.
