Women's Cross Country Has 14th-Highest G.P.A. In Division III

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 23, 2003 – Springfield College junior Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) was named an Academic All-American, while the Pride was recognized as having the 14th-highest cumulative grade point average in Division III, announced today by the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association.

A sports management major, Clapp’s 3.97 was tied for the 12th-highest g.p.a. out of 131 women with at least a 3.50. She was also named a Second-Team Verizon Academic All-American last spring. A four-time cross country and track & field All-American, she most recently finished 18th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship to earn her second-straight award. Individual awards are given to those who have attained a 3.50 or higher, while finishing in the top-25 percent of their regional championship.

As a team, the Pride compiled a 3.57 g.p.a. to tie NEWMAC-rival Wellesley College. SC finished sixth at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship this past fall.

The SC men’s team finished 46th out of 65 teams with a 3.19 cumulative g.p.a.
