SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 10, 2005 - Springfield College junior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) has been named to the 2005 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-New England Region Team. Senior opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) garnered a spot on the All-Region Honorable Mention squad in the same announcement.
After her junior season, Leah Hettrick, a native of Meriden, Conn., is already second on SC’s all-time list in digs. The libero has racked up an even 1,800 digs through three seasons at SC, including a school-record 46 digs in her last match against Coast Guard in the NEWMAC Semifinals. Next season, Hettrick will need just 101 digs to become the all-time school leader in that category, as she will have the opportunity to pass Robin Chase, who ended her career at an even 1,900. This season’s Tom Hay Invitational MVP finished the year ranked second in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in digs per game (6.32), with a total of 752.
In her four seasons at SC, Ashley Reves, who resides in Orchard Park, N.Y., has accumulated an impressive career total of 1,604 kills, good for second on SC’s all-time list. Reves passed former Pride standout, Robin Chase (1997-2000), in her last career match at SC, recording 19 kills in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Semifinals against the Coast Guard Academy. This season, Reves finished the year ranked fifth in the NEWMAC in kills per game (3.63) and sixth in overall hitting percentage (.245).
