Women's Gymnastics Finishes Fourth At New York Cup

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Ithaca College opened its 2005 women's gymnastics season with a first-place finish at the five-team New York Cup, hosted by SUNY Cortland.

The Bombers finished with a score of 181.85, followed by SUNY Brockport (180.625), Cortland (179.725), Springfield College (177.825) and Wisconsin-Stout (174.55).

Sophomore Kelly Stevison (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) led Ithaca with a first place finish on vault (9.50) and a second place showing on floor exercise (9.70). Freshman Aubree Lewis (Oswego) placed second on uneven bars (9.175) and the all-around (36.975) and fourth on balance beam (9.175) for the Bombers. Sophomore Crescent Danziger (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) finished fourth on vault (9.275).

Brockport was led by senior Carrie Santore (Webster), last year's Division III all-around, floor exercise and vault national champion. Santore won floor exercise (9.75) and the all-around (37.15) and was third on balance beam (9.225) for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Sarah Bulka (Northville/home schooled) won on uneven bars (9.40) and was fourth in the all-around (36.525) and senior Theresa Bub (Altamont/Guilderland) finished third on vault (9.30).

For Cortland, freshman Brittany Wiesner (Williamsville/Williamsville North) and senior Janelle Domaradzki (Buffalo/Niagara-Wheatfield) finished first and second, respectively, on balance beam. Wiesner finished with a 9.375 and Domaradzki received a score of 9.35. Also for the Red Dragons, junior Lindsey Marranca (Kenmore/Kenmore West) finished third on uneven bars (9.10) and in the all-around (36.575) and tied for third on floor exercise (9.65) with senior teammate Colleen Shanahan (Williamsville/Williamsville East).

Springfield sophomore Jill Silverman (Ipswich, MA/Yellow Jackets) was second on vault (9.35) and tied freshman teammate Cara Chadbourne (New Salem, MA/All-American Gym.) for fourth place on uneven bars (9.00).

Wisconsin-Stout's top finisher was freshman Ashley Timm (Eden Prairie, MN), who placed sixth on balance beam (9.075), seventh on uneven bars (8.95) and fifth in the all-around (36.275).

As a team, Ithaca finished first on both vault (45.875) and uneven bars (44.40), while Cortland won both balance beam (44.575) and floor exercise (47.65). Brockport was second on both beam (44.45) and floor (47.40), and Springfield was second on both vault (45.45) and bars (42.925).
