Women’s Tennis Beats Colby-Sawyer, 6-3
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 25, 2005 – Springfield sophomore Meghan Kelly (Queensbury, N.Y.) and senior Angela Giles (Concord, N.H.) both contributed two points each as the Pride defeated Colby-Sawyer College, 6-3, on a chilly Sunday afternoon at the Appleton Courts on the campus of Springfield College.
Kelly paired up with freshman Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) at #1 doubles and cruised 8-3 over Colby's Alex Hardenbrook and Meghan Welch. Kelly then took on Welch again in singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. Giles paired up with junior Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) at third doubles and won 8-2 over Lauren Bakker and Danielle Fantasia of Colby-Sawyer. Like Kelly, Giles took the momentum from doubles into her singles match at #6 and defeated sophomore Jill Goldstein of Colby-Sawyer 6-3, 6-2.
SC is now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). As for Colby-Sawyer, they fall to 2-4 and remain 1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). SC will next travel to Simmons College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon, September 27, at 3:00 p.m.
