Softball Splits NEWMAC-Opener at Clark University

Worcester, Mass., March 25, 2006 - Springfield College senior catcher Sarah Bagierek (Douglas, Mich.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Pride won the second game of its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader at Clark University’s O’Brien Field, 13-6, this afternoon.

Sophomore infielder Lauren D’Arrigo (Lexington, Mass.) went 1-for-2 and recorded four RBIs while senior infielder Keir Stanford (Melrose, Mass.) notched two hits, including a home run in the second inning.

Clark sophomore hurler Kelly Christensen helped her own cause with a home run over center field in the first inning. Christensen went 1-for-3 in the game.

In the first game, sophomore infielder Denise Fumicello (Brockton, Mass.) scored SC’s only run in the first inning off a sacrifice fly from Bagierek. Fumicello went 2-for-4 and recorded one stolen base despite the loss.

Clark scored both of its runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore centerfielder Julie Parnell had two hits, including a triple to bring in the winning run.

The Pride (6-6, 1-1 NEWMAC) will host Tufts University in its home-opener on Tuesday afternoon, March 28, in a 2:30 p.m. start.
