SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – January 28, 2008 – John Stawson was honored on Monday by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference as the NEWMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after an impressive week for the Pride.
The Torrington, Conn. native lifted the Springfield College men's basketball team to a pair of conference wins over the week. With the two victories, the Pride catapulted themselves into fourth-place in the league standings.
For the week, Strawson averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 61% from the floor (11-of-18).
Strawson helped lead his team against Coast Guard as Springfield won, 57-55. Strawson, who hit the game-winning three-point play with 12.4 seconds left, netted 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He added eight rebounds, a block, and a steal, while shooting 5-of-7 from the foul line.
In the Pride's 61-53 win over Babson on Saturday, Strawson tallied nine points and five rebounds to go along with two steals and an assist, going 3-of-6 from the field.
Strawson and the Pride return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to take on Wheaton. Tip off is slated for 7:00 pm
