

BOSTON, Mass., November 17, 2005- Springfield College senior offensive lineman Jason Benguche (Housatonic, Mass.) has been honored as a 2005 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team selection, in an announcement made out of Boston, Mass., this afternoon (Nov. 17).
Benguche, the 6-3, 270-pound lineman who graduated from Monument Mountain, had an extremely solid senior season on the offensive line for the Pride, as SC finished its season ranked third in all of Division III in rushing offense, averaging 339.6 yards per game.
The All-New England team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Banquet on Thursday, December 8, at Lantana’s Function Hall in Randolph. Anyone interested in attending this prestigious event should contact Dick Lipe at Bentley College (781-891-2334).
After dropping its first four games of the season, SC responded nicely, running off four of its final six contests to finish its 2005 campaign with a 4-6 overall mark. In its last two games, the Pride scored 59 points in each of them, beating its opponents by a combined 70 points (118-48).
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 27th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2008. He enters his 25th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 24 years (1984 through 2007, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
