Men's & Women's Track & Field Finish Second At RPI

TROY, N.Y., March 27, 2004 - Springfield College senior All-American
Pawel Jaroscewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) ran to victory in four events to lead the Pride men's track & field team to second place in a quad meet hosted by Rensselaer. RPI won the meet with 192 points, followed by Springfield (168.5), Westfield State (40.50) and Southern Vermont (4).
Jaroscewicz finished first in the 200-meter (22.26) and 400-meter-(48.90) dashes, while anchoring legs on the victorious 4x100-meter (43.66) and 4x400-meter (3:25.18) relays.
Also registering first-place finishes for the Pride were freshman
Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) in the high jump (6-0.5) and triple jump (43-9), senior
Brian Pearsall (Fariport, N.Y.) in the 800-meter run (2:04.80), junior
Jason Burnell (Poland, Maine) in the 400-meter hurdles (58.12) and junior
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) in the shot put (48-2 3/4).
The Pride also finished second on the women's side. RPI won the meet with 172.5 points, followed by SC (153.5) and Westfield State (55).
Sophomore
Megan Young (Hurley, N.Y.) picked up a pair of victories in the 5,000-meter run (18:39.45) and the 3,000-meter steeplechase (school-record 11:32.79). Senior
Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) finished first in the 400-meter dash (1:01.85), and sophomore
Christina Davis (Orange, Conn.) took top honors in the javelin (117-8).

Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
