SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 9, 2004 – Springfield College placed five student-athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Teams in men’s and women’s soccer.
Men’s Soccer
Junior forward Justin Pepoli, junior midfielder Zach Pereira, and senior back Mark Buschini were all named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team.
Pepoli, from Ashburnham, Mass., led the Pride in points (16), goals (six), and tied for first in assists (four). Pepoli, who started every match, was the conference player of the week on Oct. 4.
Pereira, who hails from East Providence, R.I., has been a starter since his freshman year. The anchor of the Pride’s midfield, Periera had one goal and one assist in 19 starts.
Buschini has been a three-year captain for the Pride. A native of Fleetwood, England, head coach Peter Haley describes Buschini as SC’s most consistent and dependable back.
SC, which featured 15 freshmen on its roster, finished the season with a 7-11-1 record.
Women’s Soccer
Senior forward Molly Desroches and junior back Nora Clark were named to the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team.
Desroches, a native of Belchertown, Mass., finished the season with a team-leading eight goals and 18 points. The two-time all-conference pick is the eighth-leading scorer at SC with 68 points. The senior captain is also tied for seventh all-time at SC in assists (14) and tied for ninth in goals (25).
Clark, who hails from Springfield, Mass., earned her first all-NEWMAC honor. She was the team’s top defender and a team captain. Clark scored her first career goal in a 3-2 loss against Western Connecticut on Sept, 28.
The Pride finished with a 6-9-3 record this season.
