SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 28, 2006- Springfield College senior guard Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led all scorers with 30 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point land and 9-of-16 shooting overall as the Pride cruised past Endicott College, 75-55, in non-conference action this afternoon at Blake Arena.
Yvon and senior forward Brian Riley (Worcester, Mass.) combined to score 50 of the Pride’s 75 points in the win, as Riley netted a career-best 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. Riley added a game-high 12 rebounds against the Gulls for a double-double.
After leading by just six at the break (33-27), SC came out in the second half and outscored Endicott, 42-28. After Endicott senior guard Zach Ellis nailed a three-pointer to cut the Pride lead to just three (33-30) with 19:04 left in the contest, SC responded, going on a 17-7 run capped by a lay-up from junior forward Damian Farley (Natick, Mass.) that put the Pride up, 50-37, with 14:05 left on the clock.
SC never looked back, rolling to the victory for its sixth win of the season. The Pride raises its record to 6-13 overall, whereas the Gulls fall to 11-6 on the season. Endicott was led by senior forward Matt George with a team-high 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. George also led all players in the game with six assists.
SC will next return to New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play as it travels to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Tuesday evening, January 31, in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
