Women's Track & Field Takes a Quadrangular Meet at Middlebury

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- April 5, 2008 -- Nikki Hay won three events and finished second in a fourth to lead the Springfield College women's track & field team to victory in a quadrangular meet at Middlebury College last Saturday.

Springfield scored 229 points, followed by Middlebury (191), Bowdoin (183), and Colby-Sawyer (24).

Hay, a sophomore from Norwalk, Conn., finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.01), long jump (16-7 1/4), and triple jump (36-9). She also finished second in the 200-meter dash (26.43). Hay competed in the triple jump at the indoor NCAA Division III nationals last month in Ada, Ohio.

As a team, Springfield captured seven firsts in this highly-competitive meet.

Freshman Lacey Cartier (York, Me.) placed first in the 800 (2:21.43). Senior Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) took a first in the high jump (5-0 1/4). Junior All-American Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) placed first in her specialty, the hammer (156-0). The other first place finish was claimed by senior Ashley Palmer (Holyoke, Mass.) in the 100-meter hurdles (16.51). She also had a third in the high jump (4-10 1/4).

Others from SC placed second and third. Sophomore Nicole Reynolds (Riverside, R.I.) placed second in the 400 ((1:02.86). Sophomore Amanda DiPaolo (Garrison, N.Y.) finished third in the 5000 (18:58.67). Freshman Kathryn Schumann (Cromwell, Conn.) placed third in the pole vault (7-10 1/2). Freshman Rachel Keyworth (Berlin, Conn.) took a third in the discus (99-11). Freshman Katie Bolton (Epping, N.H.) took a third in the javelin (103-10). And freshman Katherine Ward (Winslow, Me.) took a pair of thirds in the shot put (33-1 3/4) and the hammer (110-10).

The Pride will next travel to Worcester on Friday (please note date change) to take on the WPI Engineers and the Coast Guard Bears.
