SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 9, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore Cara Chadbourne (New Salem, Mass.) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Gymnastics Co-Specialist of the Week, in a report announced by the conference office this week.
Chadbourne, a native of New Salem, Mass., is a very talented gymnast that is enjoying a very stellar sophomore campaign. She has had trouble overcoming her own teammates in meets this season, falling short by only tenths of points. This week, however, Cara jumped to the head of the pack and performed well in a meet for the Pride at Southern Connecticut State University.
In a routine that included a beautiful front one-one-half layout, Chadbourne was able capture first in the floor exercise with a 9.500 score. She also placed fourth on the uneven bars. Amongst the individual national rankings this season, Chadbourne is ranked in a tie for 12th on the floor exercise in Division III, averaging a score of 9.275.
The Pride, ranked third nationally in the latest GymInfo Division III poll, fell to 5-5 overall on the season after the loss to Southern Connecticut. SC will compete in the ECAC Championships on Saturday, March 11th, at Ursinus.
