Men's Gymnastics Falls To Army
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 24, 2004 – Springfield College senior Tim Goetz (South Plainfield, N.J.) finished second on the vault (8.950) and on the parallel bars (8.450), and tied for second on the floor exercise (8.600), but the Pride fell to Army, 206.150-195.000, on Saturday in Blake Arena.

SC falls to 2-5 on the season, and Army improves its record to 3-2.

Army freshman Brandon Whitten won two events during the contest, finishing first in both the floor exercise (8.900) and the vault (9.000).

The teams will meet again in the Army Invitational on Fri.-Sat., January 30-31 at West Point.

In women’s gymnastics action, Springfield College senior Jenny Romano-Joseph (Shutesbury, Mass.) finished fifth in the all-around (35.650), but the Pride was third in this afternoon’s tri-meet with SUNY-Brockport and SUNY-Cortland.

Brockport finished first in the meet with a total score of 184.800 and Cortland was second with 182.875. The Pride scored 181.125.

Romano-Joseph also placed third in the floor exercise (9.625) and a tie for fourth in the vault competition (9.400).

Brockport senior Carrie Santore finished first in the all-around competition with a score of 37.600.Cortland sophomore Luisa Gutierrez finished first in the vault competition (9.575), and senior Danin Squires placed fourth in the all-around with 35.925.

The Pride (2-3) is at Cortland with Rhode Island College and Brockport on Saturday, January 31, in a 1 p.m. meet.
