

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 7, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore quarterback Chris Sharpe (Derry, NH) has been named the Empire 8 Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, and junior defensive back Lucas Maciarello (Stillwater, NY) has been named Empire 8 Co-Defensive Player of the Week in football. Sharpe has also been named this week's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast Offensive Player of the Week.
Sharpe, a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, rushed 23 times for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-35 win over Hartwick on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5). He ran for scores of three, 43 and 58 yards, and fell just 17 yards shy of SC's single-game rushing record of 268 yards set back in 1987. Sharpe also completed a pass for 31 yards, giving him 282 yards of total offense on the day. This week marks the second week this season that Sharpe has been honored by the Empire 8 in the conference's weekly report, as Sharpe was also named the Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week back on October 2.
Maciarello, a graduate of Schuylerville High School, tied a single-game school record with three interceptions, returning them for a total of 71 yards. He also added five tackles for the Pride.
The Pride will wrap up its regular season at home this Saturday, November 12, against Norwich University in an Empire 8 Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 27th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2008. He enters his 25th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 24 years (1984 through 2007, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
