Junior Jillian Silverman has been honored by the ECAC as the Specialist of the Week for the second time this season in just three weeks.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 1, 2006 - Springfield College junior Jillian Silverman (Ipswich, Mass.) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Gymnastics Specialist of the Week, in a report announced by the conference office this week. It is the second time over the past three weeks that Silverman has garnered this honor.

In the Pride’s latest meet, a 176.725-171.175 win at Rhode Island College (Jan. 28), Silverman paced SC with first place finishes in both the vault and balance beam events. Silverman scored a 9.425 on the vault and an impressive 9.450 in the balance beam competition, as it was just the junior’s third-ever beam competition in her collegiate career.

In the individual national rankings thus far on the year, Silverman is ranked second in Division III on the vault, averaging a 9.456 score, eighth on the balance beam, with a 9.062 average, and 10th on the uneven parallel bars (8.881).

The Pride, ranked third nationally in the latest GymInfo Division III Poll, improved to 3-2 overall on the season with the Rhode Island College victory. SC will have its work cut out for it this weekend, as it travels to Ithaca College, Division III’s top-ranked team, for a 1:00 p.m. meet on Sunday, February 5.
