Damian Farley Named NEWMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 8, 2007 – Springfield College senior co-captain Damian Farley (Natick, Mass.) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s basketball Player of the Week as announced Monday morning, January 8th.

It was also announced on Wednesday morning, January 10th, that Farley has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week.

Farley, a graduate of Natick High School, led the Pride to a 3-0 week with wins over Colby College (64-48) and Kean University (76-73) in SC’s Holiday Inn/Naismith Classic, and MIT (57-56) in SC’s NEWMAC opener this past Saturday (Jan. 6) in Cambridge, Mass.

The senior forward was named the Naismith Classic’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the Pride’s opening-round win against Colby College (Jan. 2). The next night, Farley tallied game-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds in SC’s win over Kean University to capture the title. Farley followed up his MVP performance with a team-best 17 points as the Pride edged out MIT for its third straight win.

For the week, the Natick, Mass., native averaged 15.7 points per game (ppg) and 8.3 rebounds per game (rpg). For the season, Farley is leading SC with 11.8 ppg and 6.3 rpg. Among conference rankings, Farley is currently seventh in the NEWMAC in rebounding and 14th in the league in scoring.

After this past week’s three-game winning streak, the Pride has now upped its record to 6-7 overall on the season. SC looks to go 2-0 in NEWMAC play and 7-7 overall when it hosts WPI, the two-time defending NEWMAC Tournament Champions, on Tuesday evening, January 9th, in a 7:00 p.m. start in Blake Arena.
