Men's Lacrosse's Late Flurry Not Enough as No. 18 Bowdoin Holds On For 9-8 Win

Box Score

EXETER, N.H. - April 2, 2008 -- The Springfield College men's lacrosse team rallied to cut No. 18 Bowdoin's lead to one with just under three minutes to go, but the Pride eventually fell to the Polar Bears, 9-8, at Exeter High School in New Hampshire on Wednesday evening.

Springfield, which has now lost three one-goal games this season, falls to 3-5. Bowdoin improves to 5-3.

Bowdoin opened up a 4-2 lead after the opening period and extended its lead to 6-3 at the first half. Back-to-back goals from Joe Macchi and Tyler Montgomery just 26 seconds apart cut the Polar Bears' lead to one with 9:26 left.

However, the Polar Bears responded with three of the game's next four goals to extend their lead to 9-6 with just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation. After Bowdoin's final tally of the game at 11:34 off a goal from Mike Giordano, Jake Beebe connected with Kyle Gable just 10 seconds later to bring SC within two.

With 2:39 on the clock, Kyle Louer found the back of the cage to cut the lead to one, but that was as close as the Pride would get.

Tom Albano made 13 saves in goal for the Pride in the loss.
