

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 11, 2007) – The Springfield College men’s tennis team defeated the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 8-1, this afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match in New London, Conn.
With the win, Springfield ups its record to 6-4 overall, and 2-1 in the NEWMAC. Coast Guard falls to 4-6 overall, 0-3 in the conference.
Springfield leaped to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles. Highlights included a pair of 8-0 victories produced at No. 2 by senior Ethan Clime (Bristol, Me.) and junior Guy Lepore (Bayshore, N.Y.), and at No. 3 by freshmen Trevor Romanzi (Bayshore, N.Y.) and Kevin Leahy (Cheshire, Conn.). Also winning in doubles were sophomore Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) and junior Joe Lisi (Southbridge, Mass.) at No. 1.
Springfield winners in singles included Constant at No. 1, Clime at No. 3, senior Alex Kosicki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 4, Romanzi at No. 5, and sophomore Bobby Schlink (Quaker Hill, Conn.) at No. 6. All matches were decided in straight sets.
