SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 27, 2007 -- Springfield College junior guard Jamaal Gibbs has been named All-New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Second Team in men’s basketball for his exploits this past season.
A native of Norwalk, Conn., Gibbs ended the season averaging 11.9 points per game. That figure, plus his 32.3 minutes per game, led the Pride in both categories. He also finished the season with 66 assists and 35 steals for Springfield, which ended 12-14 overall, but had a 7-5 winning mark in conference play.
Jamaal led the Pride in scoring seven times this campaign. His best performance came in the latter stages of the season against Wheaton College in a 71-69 road victory in which he scored 21 points. In that game, Jamaal also led the team with nine field goals, six rebounds, and five assists. In addition, he scored the winning basket, breaking a tie with 3.3 seconds to go.
Gibbs graduated in 2004 from Brien McMahon High School and is planning to graduate from Springfield in 2008 with a degree in Recreation Management with a minor in Business and Coaching.
