Feit, Sharpe Earn More Football All-American Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – December 18, 2006 – Senior offensive guard Adam Feit and junior quarterback Chris Sharpe of Springfield College have received more All-American honors as bestowed by d3football.com for their outstanding play during the 2006 football season.
A pair of captains, Feit was named a d3football.com First Team All-American, while Sharpe was named an honorable mention All-American performer.
Feit, a native of Chicopee, Massachusetts and a graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School, was earlier this week named a First Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. This past Saturday night (Dec. 16), Feit competed in the Aztec Bowl at Estadio Victoria in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Feit and his Division III USA teammates defeated Mexico, 28-7.
The 6-2, 255-pound Feit was also earlier named First Team Empire 8 All-Conference, First Team New England Football Writers Association All-New England, and First Team d3football.com All-East Region.
The 5-9, 204-pound Sharpe, a native of Derry, N.H., has also received a ton of post-season honors. Just two days ago, he was named winner of the Melberger Award, symbolic of the top Division III football player in the nation. He has also been named AP Little All-America Second Team, winner of the NEFWA Gold Helmet Award for the Season (Division II/III Player of the Year), winner of the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston’s Joseph P. Zabilski Award (Division II/III Player of the Year), First Team d3football.com All-East Region, Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, First Team Empire 8 All-Conference, and First Team NEFWA All-New England.
Sharpe led the nation (Division III) in three offensive categories -- rushing yards per game (161.8), points per game (17.7), and TD’s (35). He broke six NCAA Division III records, and 12 Springfield College records. As a team, SC led the nation in average yards rushing per game (374.7), the 6th time it has done so in Head Coach Mike DeLong’s tenure at Springfield College. As a team, SC finished 10-2 this past season, during which it won an Empire 8 co-title, and reached the NCAA Tourney.

Head Coach Mike DeLong
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 27th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2008. He enters his 25th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 24 years (1984 through 2007, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
