Women's Lacrosse Advances In NEWMAC Tournament With 13-7 Win Over Mount Holyoke

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 22, 2004 – Springfield College junior forward Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) scored three goals to lead the Pride to a 13-17 victory over Mount Holyoke this evening in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament on Benedum Field.

Looney's second goal of the game at the 18:35 mark of the second half was her 100th-career point. Sophomore forward Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) also added her 100th-career point earlier in the game with a goal at the 8:49 mark of the first half. Both Looney (87 goals, 14 assists) and Carmody (69 goals, 32 assists) have 101 career points, tied for eighth all-time at Springfield.

Senior forward Libbey Beinert (Williston, Vt.) and freshman forward Ashely Martell (Billerica, Mass.) also contributed three goals apiece to lead SC to it’s fourth consecutive victory. Freshman forward Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) chipped in with two goals and an assist for the Pride (10-4).

The Lyons (0-13) were led by sophomore forward Caitlin Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) and her game–high five points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Kristen Engebretson (Southampton, Mass.) added two goals and an assist.

Second-seeded SC will next face No. 3 Babson on Saturday (April 24) in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Tournament, hosted by top-seeded Wheaton College. The Pride defeated Babson, 14-7, during the regular season.
