

Springfield vs. Plymouth State Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --October 6, 2007 -- The Springfield College women’s volleyball won a pair of games en route to capturing the Tom Hay Invitational on Saturday evening in Blake Arena. Junior Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) was outstanding all weekend and was named Tournament MVP for her efforts.
Springfield defeated Western Connecticut State and Plymouth State in three games to improve its overall record to 17-6 on the season.
In the opening match against Western Connecticut, the Pride won in three games by the scoes of 30-21, 30-16, 30-25. Ilkson was unstoppable as she notched 13 kills on a .455 hitting percentage to go along with 14 digs. Sarah Lang-Rodean (Mansfield Center, Conn.) added 11 kills while All-Tournament selection Bethany Stosz (Amherst, Mass.) added seven kills and seven blocks. Kelsea Hellyar (Fairhaven, Mass.) was outstanding running the offense for Springfield as she collected 39 assists and five digs.
In the second match, the Pride toppled Plymouth State, 30-13, 30-16, 30-17. Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) paced the pride with 12 kills and 13 digs as she hit .345 in the match. Ilkson chipped in with 11 kills, hitting at a .435 clip, and added 13 digs of her own. Jennifer Grimaldi (Farmingville, N.Y.) recorded 10 digs in the match while Hellyar directed the offense with 38 assists.
The Pride return to action on Tuesday when it takes on conference-foe Babson on the road.

Joel Dearing will enter his 20th season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2008. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 638-293 (.685) overall mark in 27 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
