SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 18, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore midfielder Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) has been honored as this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week, in a report released on Monday morning, September 18th.
Kelleher, a graduate of Harwich High School, scored two goals, including the game-winner with just 1:27 left in regulation to lift the Pride over non-conference foe, Connecticut College, 3-2, this past Thursday evening, September 14th.
In her sophomore season, the Chatham, Mass., native has scored five goals in just five games for SC this season. Kelleher leads the team in scoring with a total of 10 offensive points as the Pride, ranked 11th in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III poll, has gone 4-1 to start its 2006 campaign.
In four SC victories this season, Kelleher has already racked up three game-winning goals. The sophomore tallied the game-winner in the Pride’s 2006 season-opening victory over Western New England College (Sept. 2) in a 2-0 win, the winner against RPI in the championship game of the Zenaty Invitational (Sept. 3) in a 4-1 win, and then the game-winner against Conn. College last Thursday.
SC will next host Amherst College in a non-conference game on Wednesday night, September 20th, in a 7:00 p.m. start at Benedum Field before the Pride opens up NEWMAC action at home against Babson College on Saturday afternoon, September 23rd, at 4:00 p.m.
