In 2004, Springfield College's strength and conditioning program was recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for its proactive efforts in providing students with the education needed to be successful in the exercise and sport science fields. Springfield College was one of just 47 institutions to be honored by the NSCA.
Meet Our Faculty & Staff
Director of Strength and Conditioning
Margaret Jones, CSCS, FACSM is in her 10th year as Springfield College’s Director of Strength and Conditioning for intercollegiate athletics. She oversees the strength and conditioning program design (resistance training, plyometrics, agility) and implementation for 16 teams each semester, and directs the Master’s Degree program in strength and conditioning. In addition to working with college’s athletes, Jones has trained middle school, high school and international athletes. Her sport-specific coaching experience includes scholastic level soccer, basketball, tennis, and track & field, as well as collegiate-level tennis.
Several of Jones’ graduates have gone on to prominent positions in the field, including Eric Ciano ’97, director of player development at Georgia Tech University, Liz Proctor, women’s basketball strength and conditioning coach at the University of Rhode Island, Sean Hayes ’96, strength and conditioning coach at Clemson University and Hal Luther ’96, assistant strength and conditioning coach at Syracuse University.
Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning
Brian Thompson PhD, ATC, CSCS has been the Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning at Springfield College since 2004 and a full time faculty member since 1998. He first started working in the field of strength and conditioning in 1992 and has trained athletes at the middle school, high school, collegiate, professional, and olympic levels. He currently supervises the strength and conditioning program design and implementation for 18 teams at Springfield College. His competitive sports background includes power lifting, wrestling, and college football.
