Springfield College developed one of the first collegiate soccer programs in the United States. The program, which dates back to 1906, has a rich tradition that includes five national championships and over 600 victories. The 2007 campaign will mark the program’s 95th season.
The men's soccer program has produced numerous All-Americans and All-Region players, but SC also enjoys the distinction of having close to 30 alumni serving as either head or assistant coaches at the college level today. Tony DiCicco ’70 represented Springfield College and the United States on an international level by serving as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team that won the 1999 World Cup Championship and the Gold Medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Current head coach Peter Haley ’77 was voted the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in 1999 after leading the Pride to its first NEWMAC title and first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 25 years.
In 2006, freshman Adrian Schippers was named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. He, along with juniors Tony Distasio and Colin Cook, were all named Second Team All-NEWMAC.
