With more than 500 career victories (505 to be exact) now safely tucked under its belt, Springfield College will open its 2008 season on Thursday, September 4th, with a road game at Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass. at 7 p.m. That contest will be the first of two straight night games for the Pride. On Saturday, September 13, Springfield will host Union at Stagg Field at 7 pm. That home game will be the first of five games at home. The others will include Alfred on Sept. 27, Utica on Oct. 4, new-foe Mount Ida on Oct. 18, and Empire 8 defending champion Hartwick on Nov. 8. Besides the opener at Fitchburg State, other road contests include Husson on Oct. 11, St. John Fisher on Oct. 25, Ithaca on Nov. 1, and Norwich on Nov. 15.
The Oct. 4 game will be a Family & Friends Day.
The Oct. 18 contest will be Homecoming Day.

Springfield College's playing field was resurfaced with FieldTurf during the summer of 2007.

Head Coach Mike DeLong (’74) two seasons ago won four Coach of the Year awards for leading his team to a 10-2 overall record, an Empire 8 co-title, and an NCAA post-season tournament berth. He will start the ’08 season as the winningest active Division III coach in New England with 150 victories in 26 years as a head coach. Twenty-four of those years have come right here at Springfield where he has recorded 138 victories, including a sparkling 44-19 mark the past six years. In five of the past 10 years (‘98, ’00, ’02, ’03, '06), Springfield teams have gone on to compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament. In ’95 and ’04, Springfield teams also won ECAC post-season tournament contests.
Throughout the years, plenty of accolades have been handed out to members of the Pride, but none more impressive than in 2006 when Chris Sharpe was awared the Melberger Award, emblematic of the National Player of the Year in Division III. In that historic season, the QB established 12 school records and six NCAA Division III national marks.
