About The Team

One of the top track & field programs in the Northeast, Springfield College won two consecutive Eastern College Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in 2002 and 2003.

Heading into the 2009-10 season, Springfield College has finished in the top four in 11 of the last 13 Division III New England Outdoor Championships. The Pride finished third of 28 teams when it hosted the meet in 2007. SC finished third of 26 scoring teams in 2008, and in 2009. The Pride also hosted and won the meet in 2000. In addition, in 2007, SC placed second in a field of 44 teams at the ECAC Division III Championships. And in 2008, the Pride finished third of 53 scoring teams as it hosted the ECAC's. In 2009, SC placed eighth of 56 scoring teams, as it hosted that meet once again.

The team practices/competes at the Blake Track and Field facility, an eight-lane lighted facility with dual runways, 42-inch lanes, and new throwing circles and cages. It is considered to be one of the top facilities in New England for track & field. In September of 2008, Springfield College opened a new fieldhouse (including an indoor track), as well as a new wellness center and exercise science building.

Because of that, Track & Field took an additional upswing at Springfield College last season, hosting three track meets in the new fieldhouse. In addition, SC hosted both the New England's and the ECAC's outdoors in Division III this past May. Springfield College will host the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships once again in 2010, marking the third time it will do so in a four-year span.

Springfield College has produced 63 All-Americans in track & field. Senior-to-be Steve Headley of nearby Wilbraham, Mass. won the 100 meter dash and became an All-American at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio. He also finished third in the 200, and helped the 4x100 meter relay take sixth in the same meet. Earlier in the year, Headley had won the 55-meter dash in a blazing time of 6.24 seconds at the NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana. In 2007-2008, Headley had finished fourth in the 100 in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in Oshkosh, Wis.

The outdoor track & field team has an outstanding 75-10 record in dual meets (.882 winning percentage) since the 1997 season.

Springfield will host seven track & field meets in 2009-10, including four indoors (two in December, one in January, and one in February), and three outdoors (including the NEWMAC's and the ECAC Division III's).
