Trio Picks Up Weekly NEWMAC Honors After Successful Week In the Pool

Springfield, Mass. - November 24, 2008 - Three members of the Springfield College swimming and diving teams were honored for their outstanding performances this week in the pool as they were tabbed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Performers of the Week.
Brian Sobel was named the NEWMAC Men's Diver of the week for the second time this season, while
Aimee Doe and
Meghan Kijanka were selected as the Female Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively.

Women's Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Wheaton and Keene State
Norton, Mass. - November 22, 2008 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team cruised to a sweep of Wheaton and Keene State in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. Springfield handled Wheaton by a score of 190-109 and downed Keene State, 175-123.

About The Team
The 2008-09 Springfield College women's swimming and diving team returns five national participants from last seasons's squad and will be led by senior All-American and two-time NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year
Moira Price. Price finished third in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and 13th in the 50 free. Senior diver
Erin White earned honorable mention All-American honors last season by finishing 16th in the three-meter diving. Also competing in the NCAA Division III meet last season are returners
Kallie Pottle and
Michelle Reggio, who will help bolster the Pride's exceptional quality and depth.
Head Coach
John Taffe, who enters his 20th year at Springfield College, will begin this season as a six-time NEWMAC Coach of the Year. Taffe believes that this year's team possesses the appropriate mix of experience, depth, and youth. With the addition of one of his best freshman classes ever, Taffe has high hopes of being able to contend for his ninth-consecutive NEWMAC title and to continue to improve at the national level.

Head diving coach
Peter Avdoulos enters his 24th season at SC since graduating from the College in 1985. Avdoulos is a four-time NCAA Division III Women’s Coach of the Year. He is also a five-time NEWMAC Coach of the Year, as Avdoulos has coached three separate National Champions (Nora Kelly, Lindsay Moore, Alison Mellage).

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is in his 24th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs. Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
