Men's Track and Field Takes Eighth at New England Division III Championships

Lewiston, Maine - February 20, 2010 - Behind Steve Headley's winning effort in the 55-meter dash, the Springfield College men's indoor track and field team finished eighth at the Division III New England Championships on Saturday at Bates College.

The Pride recorded 49 points on the day as MIT won the Championships with an overall score of 132.5. Williams finished second with 109 points and Tufts rounded out the top three with 65 points.

The defending national champion in the 55 meters continued to run well as of late as he posted a time of 6.35 as he crossed the finish line first.

In the 200, Matt Amendola finished in seventh with a time of 23.28.

Springfield had a strong showing in the 400 as Chris Quetant took fourth in 50.89 and Nickel Hay finished in sixth in 50.95. The duo also joined up in the 4x400 relay team that finished second as Hay, Tom Brognano, Kevin Behlmer, and Quetant crossed the finish line in 3:24.08

Troy French had a solid showing for the Pride in the 1,000 meters as he took home third place after recording a time of 2:31.48.

The distance medley relay team of Zach Pietras, Oscar Esposito, Russell Johnson, and Ryan O'Connell registered a time of 10:36.23 en route to finishing eighth.

In the long jump, Kevin Coyle placed second with a jump of 7.04m, 23-01.25, and returned to the triple jump after several weeks off to finish third in New England with a leap of 14.04m, 46-00.75

Each of the aforementioned student-athletes earned All-New England honors as they placed in the top eight of their sport, respectively.
