Springfield, Mass. -- December 10, 2009 -- Led by Steve Headley and Nickel Hay, the Springfield College men's track & field team won its own 4-Way Meet this evening at the Springfield College Field House. The Pride finished first with 239 points, followed by Westfield State (151), Eastern Connecticut State (99), and Connecticut College (44).

Headley won his specialty, the 55-meter dash, in 6.35 seconds, and has been consistent in his first two indoor meets this winter. The defending national champion in this event, Headley ran a 6.33 last Saturday on the same surface. Andrew Ricketts of Eastern Connecticut State was his closest competition at 6.51 seconds.

Meanwhile, Hay had a great meet, finishing first in the 400 with a time of 50.29 seconds (a personal best), and second in the 200 with a time of 23.00, just 31/100ths behind Westfield State's Marc Gomes. Hay also led his 4x400 relay team to an easy first-place finish with a time of 3:30.82. In the 400, Hay qualified for the ECAC's and the New England Division III's.

In other notes of worth from a Springfield College point of view, Kevin Coyle won the long jump with a leap of 6.93 meters. Nick Hogan captured the weight throw with a toss of 14.31 meters (46-feet-10 inches), a full two feet better than he had ever thrown it. E.J. Occhiboi won the high jump at 1.86 meters, qualifying for the New England's. And Kyle Brown earned the pole vault crown for the night with a jump of 4.04 meters, a personal-best that qualified him for the ECAC's and New England's.

Joining Hay in the winning 4x400 relay were Matt Krakowski, Kevin Behlmer, and Chris Quetant, who also had a p.r. (50.49) in the 400 in which he finished second.

Springfield also finished first in the 4x800 meter relay behind the winning foursome of Stephen Creamer, Ryan O'Connell, James Dang, and Zach Pietras. The time was 8:20.72.
