No. 28 Wrestling Handles SUNY-Oswego, 27-9, in Budd Whitehill Opener; But Falls to No.15 Cortland, 19-12, After Day 1
Williamsport, Pa. - January 15, 2010 - The Springfield College wrestling team cruised to victory in its opening match of the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College as it topped SUNY-Oswego, 27-9, on Friday morning. But later in the afternoon, it was No. 15-ranked Cortland defeating the Pride, 19-12.The Pride, which is currently ranked 28th in the country in the latest Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, won seven bouts by decision and one by forfeit en route to the victory over Oswego. After dropping a decision at 141, the Pride rattled off six straight victories, including five by decision, to take complete control of the match.
But in the latter stages of the afternoon, it was Cortland sweeping the last two matches at 197 and heavyweight to score the last seven team points, pushing the Red Dragons to the 19-12 victory.

Head Coach Daryl Arroyo
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 21th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2010-11. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 291-157-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .647 winning percentage.
