Men's Soccer Coaching Staff

Head Coach Peter Haley

Peter Haley Only the seventh coach in a rich soccer tradition dating back to 1906, Peter Haley '77 G '78 will be entering his 27th season of coaching at his alma mater in the fall of 2011. Haley, who earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in physical education at Springfield College, currently serves as an associate professor in the physical education teacher preparation program.

A veteran of 30 years on the college soccer circuit, Haley has amassed over 200 wins during his impressive tenure. He was voted the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in 1999 after leading the Pride to its first NEWMAC title and the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 25 years. The 1999 squad finished with an overall mark of 15-6.

Haley, the first of only two players in the program’s history to be named a team captain three times, continues to emphasize player development through hard work, dedication, and discipline both on and off the playing field. He holds both his Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and his "B" License from USA Soccer. Prior to his return to SC, Haley was the head men's and women's coach at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.

Haley lives in Springfield with his wife, Cathi, who is a nurse in the West Springfield Public School System.

Associate Head Coach Steffan Siebert

Siebert begins his sixth year coaching at the college level and his third at Springfield College as the associate head coach. A former professional soccer player in Germany, Siebert has been a head coach with three different German club teams during the past 11 years, all of whom had high success under his tenure. Since then, Coach Siebert has attained his B,C,D Coaching License from US Soccer as well as the UEFA B and the NSCAA National, Advanced National, and Premier Diplomas. He also holds a state, regional, and national goalkeeper diploma. Siebert comes from an experienced background in exercise science as he has worked at the well-renowned fitness club, Elixia, in Berlin, Germany, in addition to earning his Bachelor’s Degree is Exercise Science and Psychology. Siebert has also completed his Master’s Degree in Athletic Counseling. Siebert is also working as an adjunct professor in the psychology department at Springfield College.

Assistant Coach Ronan O'Rourke

Ronan O'Rourke E-Mail Coach O'Rourke
Ronan O'Rourke is currently in his first season on the sidelines with the Pride as an assistant coach. Originally from Ireland, O'Rourke grew up playing club soccer in Brussels, Belgium and holds Coaching and Psychology for Soccer Certificates from the English Football Association. O' Rourke completed his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Studies/Advanced French at the University of Hertfordshire in England and played club soccer at West Virginia University while studying abroad. He has also completed his Master's Degree in Athletic Counseling and is currently working on his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study.

Volunteer Assistant Coach Steve Groccia

Steve Groccia Groccia will serve as a volunteer assistant coach for the Pride as he returns to his alma mater. A graduate from Springfield College in 1999, Groccia was a member of the men's soccer team from 1994-1998. He was a captain of the team in 1998 and was a NEWMAC All-Star in both 1997 and 1998. He has since been a physical educator for nine years, most recently in iShrewsbury, Mass. He has coached high school soccer, basketball and baseball, and was the assistant men's soccer coach and softball coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2008-2009.
