



Box ScoreSpringfield, Mass. - September 5, 2009 - Freshman goalie Chris Walton registered seven saves in his college debut and James Ashcroft tallied a goal and as assist as the Springfield College men’s soccer team defeated Husson in game two of the Soccer City Shootout held at Western New England College.
The new-look Pride, which started five freshmen, will face Western New England College in the championship game at 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Husson will play Westfield State in the consolation match at Noon.
Springfield led 1-0 at the half as Ashcroft assisted senior forward John Plourd at 41:50 for the score.
In the second half, Ashcroft converted on a penalty kick and sophomore forward Eric Stalsburg put in the last of Springfield’s three goals with 9:01 left in the contest. Sophomore midfielder Jae Tracey got credited with the assist.
Junior goalie Miguel Dominguez finished with five saves for Husson.

Only the seventh coach in a rich soccer tradition dating back to 1906, Peter Haley '77 G '78 will be entering his 27th season of coaching at his alma mater in the fall of 2011.
