



Box ScoreSpringfield, Mass. - March 4, 2010 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team downed city-rival Western New England, 13-6, in head coach Kristen Mullady's coaching debut in a non-conference clash on Thursday afternoon
It was the season opener for the Pride as it improved to 1-0, while the Golden Bears dropped to 0-2. The win boosts Springfield's all-time record against WNEC to 11-0.
Dobson's five points led SC, while Erin Doolan and Nicole Soucie each recorded two goals and two assists. Allie Davis made her collegiate debut with two goals and an assist, and Jenn Zubkus and Alexandra Bazzano each posted a goal and an assist.
Lauren McAulay picked up the win between the pipes as she made 12 saves for the Pride. Juniors Megan O'Brien had a game-high four ground balls for Springfield while classmate Rebecca DiSisto had four caused turnovers.
After a Katie Toomy unassisted strike put the Golden Bears up 2-1 with 24:17 remaining in the first half, Springfield rattled off seven unanswered goals to end the half as the Pride grabbed a commanding 8-2 advantage. Doolan and Dobson each found the back of the cage twice in the spurt to pace the Pride scoring.
Megan Doyle tallied an unassisted goal for the hosts at the 27:45 mark of the second half to make it an 8-3 game, only to have Meghan Flanagan answer for the Pride just over two minutes later with her second goal of the game. Doyle struck again with just under 17 minutes remaining to cut Springfield's lead to five, but Zubkus and Dobson tallied back-to-back strikes to put the game out of reach. The Pride led by as many as eight after a Davis goal with 5:03 remaining, before Lindsey Fenton closed out the scoring in the contest with a free-position goal with 1:35 on the clock.
Fenton paced the Golden Bears with two goals and an assist, while Doyle and Toomy each recorded a pair of goals. Marissa Bonitatibus was charged with the loss despite making 10 saves for the hosts.
Springfield will not play again until March 17 when it travels to San Antonio, Texas during its Spring Break to take on Oswego State at 2:00 pm.
